Alan was born in Derbyshire and returned to the county after a long and distinguished career in the Army. He took up sculpture using birds as inspiration and aims to produce works which are true representations of the species presented in a dynamic, tactile form. His work is widely collected and has been commissioned by the RSPB, The Royal Auxiliary Air Force, Marconi and The Sandpiper Trust.
